This socially engaged work, in collaboration with artist Sandra Lange, is comprised of 3 videos, with sculptural elements by Jochan Lange. The videos feature discourse with artists, activists and cultural organisers working in the disability/Crip space.

The access needs of the participants shaped both the formal and aesthetic approach to the work. For example, one of them, due to chronic fatigue, was not able to sustain a lengthy phone call conversation, and so the conversation occurred in a series of voice notes which were recorded. They also did not feel comfortable being filmed and were therefore represented by an avatar.

We also used photogrammetry to create a digital model of the space, and so during the exhibition, we released a webpage where Crip and disabled folks who could not attend the physical location were still able to visit the space (clicking through it like one would on Google Earth) and watch the films through an online portal. In doing this, we we aimed to bring crip-folks into art spaces, decentralising physical spaces as the de facto site of artistic production and viewership.

Also in a collaborative decision with the participants, who weren’t able to stand for long periods of time, or to stand at all, we decided to screen the videos horizontally, inviting all viewers to engage with the works lying down. We also created a camera and audio set-up so new conversations could be documented during the exhibition.
